FRESH OFF THE BOAT: FAMILY BUSINESS TRIP {SECOND SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The second season premiere in this comedy series, inspired by the memoir by chef Eddie Huang, about a Taiwanese immigrant family and their attempts to build a "perfect" American life in 1990s Florida.
In this episode, as summer vacation dawns, Eddie learns that he must return to school in September with interesting stories or "fresh gear" in order to avoid social ostracization. After several weeks of doing nothing, he learns that his new sneakers are officially "out," while elsewhere Evan is equally distraught to learn that he is close to becoming a "big kid." An overwhelmed Jessica informs Honey that she and her husband do not "believe in" vacations, though Jessica then grows suspicious of Louis' business trip, conveniently located at theme park/resort Gator World. She decides to bring the entire family along to the fancy hotel, though she dodges additional fees wherever possible, determined not to be "suckered" by hidden costs.
A frustrated Louis tries to hide his real recreational plans, and when Jessica finally takes the family to the predator-themed adventure park, only "handi-capable" Grandma gets in for free as Jessica refuses to pay the exorbitant ticket prices. She then catches Louis partying it up with his fellow businessmen; he admits that he has been sneaking off to have private vacations for years under the guise of work-related trips and begs her to finally relax and indulge herself. Though uncertain, she signs up for a luxurious massage and finally begins to appreciate the perks of unwinding – just as Louis reacts with horror to the extremely high hotel bill, which is indeed filled with hidden costs. Jessica, however, recruits "baby" Evan to help her trick the establishment into lowering the charges. Eddie, discovering that he is in fact scared of the park rides, returns to school without any good stories. However, pretty neighbor Nicole, returning to repeat the eighth grade, unexpectedly rescues her "friend" Eddie in front of his awed pals. Includes commercials and promos.
