DAVE'S WORLD: LET SIMMER, THEN GRILL (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series based on the life and times of Miami Herald columnist and family man Dave Barry.

In this episode, Mia informs a minimally attentive Dave that, sick of performing his boring tasks, she has been offered a promising job with the Miami Heat basketball team and intends to take it if he does not make her a competitive offer. Dave then gets a call from the FBI requesting a sit-down interview. Dave, Beth and their friends ponder what misdeeds from Dave's past may be coming back to haunt him. Surprisingly cheerful Agent Heidi Sorenson soon arrives at the Barry home and, assuring Dave that his "biting satire" has not aroused the government's anger, questions Dave and Beth about Shel's life and "personal habits."

Shel is panicked to learn that he is the real subject of the FBI's inquiry, and Kenny suffers a tanning-bed mishap as he prepares for a "hot" date. Dave and Beth admit to Shel that they told Sorenson about his illicit fondness for Cuban cigars; Eric stops by to remind a clueless Dave about Mia's ultimatum. Heidi visits Shel at work and he tries to distract her with some juicy gossip about his celebrity patients, while elsewhere Kenny, still in pain from the tanning bed, is amazed by his positive experience when he is forced to actually converse with his date. Mia confesses to Eric that she has already been fired from her new position after accidentally injuring a Miami Heat player. Dave, not having realized that she left him, willingly accepts her back. Shel arrives and happily reveals that he is not being investigated for any criminal matters, but cannot divulge the true reasons for the FBI's interest in him – though Willie and Tommy quickly deduce that he is "giving new faces to mob guys." Later, Shel relies on a familiar "source" as inspiration for a gangster's new look. Commercials deleted.
