DAVE'S WORLD: BASED ON A TRUE STORY {FOURTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The fourth season premiere in this comedy series based on the life and times of Miami Herald columnist and family man Dave Barry.
In this episode, Mia tries to decide on a honeymoon spot as Dave struggles to finish a column. Shel offers up a dramatic story from his own childhood as inspiration. Eric, embarrassed at his inability to swim, is relieved when Kenny offers to teach him at his condo's pool. Dave's eccentric agent Irv Stein stops by and reveals that a movie studio has optioned Dave's latest column, the one inspired by Shel, for a feature film. Excited, Shel offers Dave a quantity of "background material" on his life; elsewhere, Eric and Kenny head to the pool, though Kenny is distracted by the many attractive female swimmers.
Shel immediately hates Dave's first script treatment, declaring that he has made too many changes to his life. Dave complains that he does not work well with others. When Beth quickly settles a dispute between Tommy and Willie, Dave reconsiders and makes up with Shel, agreeing to work on the project together. Shel, however, takes out several of Dave's "cartoony" additions and makes alterations of his own. Mia catches Eric "cavorting" with the women at the pool as Shel and Dave finish the screenplay. They excitedly attend a meeting with the Parathon Studio heads – who privately inform Irv that Shel and Dave are "out," as they have written too much "weepy-creepy crap" and not enough eye-catching action. Some time later, Dave and Shel head to the cinema and are dismayed to see that their poignant story has been transformed into a sexy blockbuster. Elsewhere, Kenny is disappointed when his flirtation is a failure. Commercials deleted.
