EAST LOS HIGH: I'M NOT EATING MEXICAN (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series about the lives of Latino teenagers at a fictional high school in East Lost Angeles.
Gina and her friends attempt to raise money for the Bomb Squad’s entry fee into an upcoming competition. Hernan continues to pursue a relationship with Lorena, and Jacob notices this. Camila visits Nicolas in jail and he expresses his appreciation for what she has done for him. She says she cannot continue to do his drug-running for him, but he assures her that his chances of a successful legal defense are good and that she will see him soon. He warns her to exercise caution around Jesus. At R&R, Liliana records a singer that Camila found for her. The dancers for a video Liliana is producing are let go at the last minute, and Camila shows her a video of Bomb Squad’s last performance. She recommends them and Liliana concurs. While trying to contact Gina, Camila drives with Jesus, who suddenly asks her to pull over after receiving a phone call. They go to Jesus’s home, where he raises his infant son along with his mother. Jesus’s son suffers from a fever and Jesus does his best to treat him with Camila’s help. On his way out, Jesus is informed by one of his contacts that a hit has been put out for him due to an earlier incident. Camila is still unable to get in contact with Gina.
Gina finally gets the message and rounds up the other dancers to appear in Liliana’s video. Jesus tells Camila that he works to give his son a better life, and that the boy’s mother is eloping with another man. On their way to the music video, most of the male dancers (except Santi) are stopped by the police. Their attempts to explain themselves are mistaken for something more aggressive and the police respond in kind. Camila goes backstage on the video shoot, being introduced by Liliana as her associate producer. She realizes that the male dancers have not yet arrived, but they are soon released by the police, as they had been mistaken for criminals they were searching for. They arrive just in time to start preparing for the video, and the remainder of the shoot proceeds without incident. They receive their paychecks for their participation, thus giving them enough money to enter the competition.
Jesus is blamed for the death of a street thug, as it is believed that the killing was done in revenge for the death of Jesus’s brother. He denies responsibility for the murder. Hernan criticizes Lorena for flirting with the customers, although she insists that she only does it in order to make good tips. She is somewhat amused by Hernan’s show of jealousy and accepts his offer to take her out to dinner. Jacob, somewhat put-off by this, gives his father condoms. Jesus tells Camila that he will have to go into hiding for a while, he feels that the hit against him will be carried out and does not want to jeopardize her safety. He says he will call her, and they kiss before he leaves; gunfire immediately breaks out just outside the studio.
