NCIS: LOS ANGELES: 767 {SEVEN SIXTY-SEVEN} (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic crime series, spun off from the series "NCIS," about the undercover operations of the Office of Special Projects in Los Angeles. In this episode, Callen and Sam undergo a rigorous training session as Deeks and Kensi spend the morning in bed, and they are all called into work and told that one Sheldon Rhodes, who worked on secret missile projects for West Central Aerospace, was killed in a not-so-accidental RV explosion. Deeks and Kensi try to track down the explosives that were found hardwired into the RV's electrical system, and Hetty discovers that Rhodes' co-worker Aiden Tinker is headed to Tokyo and suspects that he is selling secret Naval plans and killed Rhodes to cover it up. As Kensi and Deeks track down Lincoln Stern, a former SEAL friend of Sam's, Deeks reluctantly reveals that Kensi's annoying friends, "the Tiffanys," are coming to town to surprise her, intending to celebrate her recovery. Stern proves to be a tough customer, but Kensi successfully charms him into helping them identify the explosives. Elsewhere, Callen is annoyed to find that, in the interest of "covering" the entire plane, he has been placed in coach next to an annoying chatterbox while Sam luxuriates in first class.
Callen hunts for Tinker and soon discovers a dead flight attendant in the lavatory, and he and Sam are forced to explain themselves when they are caught by Air Marshal Miguel Salazar. Back on the ground, Nell and Beale wonder if Tinker was actually selling the plans to someone on the plane, rather than in Tokyo, and Cheryl the flight attendant tells Callen and Sam that the captain is prepared to turn back to L.A. without alarming the passengers. Nell and Beale discover that there are four undocumented passengers aboard Callen and Sam's flight, including one of the men who stole the explosives used in the RV, and when Sam and Callen check the cargo hold, they encounter the four men and find themselves in a shoot-out in which Salazar is seriously injured. Elsewhere, Deeks finds another of the conspirators, Aric Weber, preparing to burn down his apartment and all of the evidence within it, but Kensi shoots him dead when he takes a woman hostage. Nell and Beale conclude that the stowaways have not yet killed Tinker because the stolen plans have an encrypted failsafe, and they realize that they must temporarily kill the plane's wi-fi signal, thus cutting off communication with Sam and Callen.
The airplane passengers are terrified when the four stowaways burst into the main cabin, and Sam tries to offer himself as bait when one of them grabs Tinker at gunpoint. The captain, however, a former navy pilot, tilts the plane abruptly on Callen's command, allowing them to incapacitate three of the criminals – and Callen's irritating seatmate from coach then saves the day by identifying the fourth. Back in L.A., a Japanese counter-terrorist agent explains that they have arrested the Chinese nationals who financed and planned the theft of the Naval plans, and Sam and Callen see Salazar safely off the plane as they reassure Cheryl that she did well under the extreme pressure. The captain thanks them for saving the day and protecting the passengers, and Hetty later offers them drinks from her "private reserve," declaring that after their family's difficult year, their success in solving the crime marks one of the rare "good days."
