SOAP {EPISODE 36} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedic serial about two families, the affluent Tates and their working-class relatives, the Campbells.
In this episode, with Elaine kidnapped by the mob, Danny decides to obey the ransom note and not call the police, though Elaine's wealthy father seems unconcerned by her fate and refuses to pony up the $250,000 to save her. Elsewhere, Jessica is awed by Detective Donahue's Sherlock Holmes-like powers of observation, though he notes that little can be done if Chester ran away willingly. At the doctor's office, Corinne is baffled to learn that she is five months pregnant, despite the fact that she has only been married to Tim for a month and her former lover Peter died six months ago. The doctor informs a confused Jessica that there is "really only one way" to become pregnant, and Corinne admits to hearing a strange musical hum from her fetus.
Jodie desperately tries to corral his two unhappy actors, "Mr. Peppy Flake" and "Rodney Raisin," into finishing a "happy and peppy" breakfast cereal commercial. He is interrupted by Carol, who wonders if they should call off their wedding in light of the Campbell/Tate family's many current troubles. Also complicating matters is Dennis, who swears that he will quit professional football and come out as gay if Jodie returns to him. Jodie reluctantly tells him that that they are "finished" and he is committed to marrying Carol no matter what. In a park, Danny and Burt search for undercover cops and then try to reason with the kidnappers on the telephone; Danny finally gets the crooks to accept his "final offer" of $50,000. They quickly realize that they have no way of raising the funds, however – and are also trapped in the phone booth. Commercials deleted.
