HULLABALOO {SAMMY DAVIS, JR., SONNY AND CHER} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of musical/variety programs spotlighting pop music performers. This episode, the first of the second and final season, begins with the Hullabaloo dancers performing the opening number, and the guest stars are introduced. Host Sammy Davis, Jr. takes the stage and performs “This Could Be the Start of Something,” with accompaniment by the dancers. The Lovin’ Spoonful then perform “Do You Believe in Magic,” and a new duo act called Sonny and Cher perform “I Got You Babe.” Next, The Supremes sing “Nothing But Heartaches,” and Davis becomes an “honorary” Supreme and joins them for “Toot Toot Tootsie.” A medley of recent chart-topping hits then follows, with Davis singing “A Hard Day’s Night” and the Lovin’ Spoonful performing “Help!” The Supremes sing “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch),” and Sonny and Cher perform “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” All of the performers then join for “I’m Henery the Eighth, I Am.” Davis sings “I Know A Place” solo, and then introduces the “Hullabaloo-a-Go-Go” segment, and The Strangeloves perform their single “I Want Candy.” Davis bids the audience good night and previews upcoming episodes and stars.
