ANDY WILLIAMS SHOW, THE (BARBARA BAIN, MARTIN LANDAU, BOBBY DARIN, THE SUPREMES) (TV)
Summary
One in this series of musical variety programs hosted by Andy Williams, the first episode after an extended hiatus. Williams opens the show with "Close To You," and then receives a "welcome back" telegram from a variety of odd characters. He next performs "People Got to Be Free" with The Supremes, who then sing "Up the Ladder to the Roof" and "Everybody's Got the Right to Love." Guests Barbara Bain and Martin Landau perform a comedic scene with series regular "The Cookie Bear," portraying spies who have to retrieve a secret microfilm from a South American dictator, Williams. "Captain Weird" makes an appearance from outer space, and Williams performs "If I Ruled the World" before a visit from The Flying Silverman Brothers, who haphazardly attempt to construct a giant sign of Williams' name.
After a visit from a large talking bee, Bain and Landau perform "When I Was Small" together. An eccentric musical quartet takes the stage, and Williams compliments them on their "cymbalism" and then sings "What's the Matter, Girl?". Williams then introduces Bobby Darin, who sings his classic "Mack the Knife," and all of the guests join in for some "Useless Information," featuring a series of very odd "facts" and a brief appearance from the following week's guest, Liberace. Williams performs "Somewhere" from "West Side Story" and then closes the show with "May Each Day" as the guests bid one another good night. Commercials deleted.
