LUCILLE BALL-DESI ARNAZ SHOW, THE: LUCY MAKES ROOM FOR DANNY (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy specials based on the original "I Love Lucy" series.

The Ricardos are moving out to California for two months for a film Ricky is appearing in, and so they decide to lease their house to the Williams family, Danny, Kathy, Rusty, and Linda, in the interim. As they help the Williamses get settled, Ricky gets a call that the film has been postponed indefinitely. He and Lucy try to tactfully get the Williamses to move out, but the Ricardos end up moving in with the Mertzes in the guest house. However, Lucy constantly returns to her house to pick things up, expressing concern about matters such as the Williamses not watering her plants. Her constant interruptions make it impossible for Danny to sleep. When she takes away the toaster, Danny vows to have her arrested for trespassing if she comes back one more time.

However, Lucy hatches a scheme to evict the Williamses when she notices a clause in the lease about late rent. She attempts to sneak into the house to steal the rent check before it can be delivered, but she accidentally wakes up Danny, who mistakes her for Kathy. He cuddles up with her and the real Kathy walks in as Lucy is giving Danny a back scratch. Lucy tries to run but Danny, Kathy, and Ricky all confront her about the incident. Lucy admits what she did and Danny proposes that the two families switch houses, much to Lucy's approval. They plan to have the Mertzes stay with the Ricardos in the main house rent-free. However, Fred finds out about the swap and demands that the Williams' rent from the guest house go to him, and charges them double the price. Danny then decides he wants to move back into the Ricardos' house, but Fred won't let the Ricardos move into the guest house. Soon Lucy starts a snowball fight between everyone.

All three parties decide to take their grievances to court, where they are all suing and countersuing each other for various offenses. Everyone makes their cases to the increasingly exasperated judge. Lucy attempts to make her case but has difficulty doing so due to laryngitis she sustained in the snowball fight. She opts to use charades to convey her story, ending with the judge receiving a face-full of snow. He decides to throw out all charges from all the suits, but Little Ricky and the Williams children propose a solution of their own: have the Ricardos move back into their own home, the Williamses move into the guest house, and the Mertzes take a trip to Miami. The judge finds this to be an acceptable solution and orders it to be done, noting that the children have behaved in a far more mature fashion than their parents. The episode ends as the Ricardos, the Willimases, and the Mertzes realize how immature they acted and make peace with each other. Includes commercials.
