ODD COUPLE, THE: BIG MOUTH (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Oscar Madison and Felix Unger, two divorced men who share an apartment in New York City.
In this episode, Felix prepares to shoot an important advertisement featuring sportscaster Howard Cosell, but when Oscar barges onto the set to borrow some cash, it becomes apparent that he and Howard know – and dislike – one another. The two begin to bicker and Howard storms out, leading Felix to lament that Oscar has "ruined" him. Oscar pens a highly opinionated column insulting the renowned announcer, but Felix pleads with him to apologize, finally ambushing the two in the press box during a football game. Oscar grudgingly apologizes, but Felix's relief is short-lived when he himself insults Howard with oblivious comments about his signature "nasal twang." Howard again refuses to take part in the photo-shoot.
Felix tries to convince an amused Oscar to apologize "for him," as he already has a rapport with Howard. As Howard shows young Boy Scout Charley around the press box, Oscar pleads with him to tolerate "inane drone" Felix just long enough to do the photo-shoot, slyly reminding him of all the young fans who look up to him. Howard agrees, but Oscar then learns that his insulting "open apology" column has been published after all, thanks to Myrna's meddling; when he rushes over to the set, he finds that he is too late and Howard has already seen the piece. Howard declares that the offensive column has only made him all the more famous, but he gets his revenge by putting a nervous Oscar on the air during a football game, prompting Felix to jump in and rescue him with some florid commentary. Later, Howard visits their apartment and concedes that Felix may actually be a "noble drone" after all. Commercials deleted.
