BANANA SPLITS AND FRIENDS SHOW, THE {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedic variety program featuring both animated and live-action segments.
Highlights from this episode include: the Banana Splits taking attendance, Drooper attempting to take out the trash, a "Dear Drooper" segment, a psychedelic performance of "You're the Lovin' End," Fleegle delivering the news, Fleegle having trouble with a mailbox, and Drooper training his pet flea Fletcher to play the piano.
Includes an "Arabian Knights" animated feature, the episode "Joining of the Knights." It begins when evil sultan Bakaar conquers Baghdad, and tries to kill its prince, Turhan. Turhan escapes Bakaar's clutches, and Bakaar orders his minion Vangore to hunt down Turhan. Vangore and his men find and surround Turhan, but his life is saved by the intervention of friendly magician Fariek. Turhan and Fariek flee on a flying table, intending to reach Turhan's cousin Princess Nida at the court of the Caliph of El-Rabal. However, Vangore and his men pursue them on flying carpets; to evade them, they venture into the Caves of Doom. There they meet a gigantic strongman, Raseem. After an initial misunderstanding, he agrees to aid them, informing them that Bakaar has already conquered El-Rabal and that Nida is a prisoner. Turhan vows to rescue her, and they ride there on the back of Zazuum, Raseem's tiny donkey. Raseem demonstrates that Zazuum can become a whirlwind of destruction if his tail is pulled. They enter the city and, upon finding Nida being auctioned off, set her free. Vangore lies in wait and tries to capture them, but with the aid of Nida's mastery of disguise, they are able to reach the city gate. However, Vangore and his troops surround them, until a shapeshifter named Bez arrives and turns into an elephant to help them escape. Zazuum incapacitates Vangore and his men to aid the escape. Back at the caves, Turhan proposes that they combine their various talents and form the Arabian Knights for the goal of opposing Bakaar's tyrannical reign and thus bring justice to the land.
Also includes a "Danger Island" live-action segment. Dr. Edwin Hayden, his daughter Leslie, and their assistant Lincoln "Link" Simmons discover a treasure chest at the bottom of the ocean in an uncharted part of the Pacific Ocean. They bring it on board their boat, believing that it will provide vital evidence as to the location of the lost city of Tobanya. However, a pirate vessel starts circling their ship and they are forced to hide the treasure chest. Commercials deleted.
