BOY MEETS WORLD: STORMY WEATHER (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about teenager Cory Matthews, who balances his theories on life and friendship against those of his off-the-wall Philadelphia-based family. In this episode, as his eighteenth birthday approaches and a snowstorm hits Philadelphia, Eric excitedly heads off for his internship at the news station, which is causing him to miss class. Feeny scolds him for skipping school, pointing out that his grades are already poor enough. Elsewhere, Turner comes home to find Shawn "studying" with his girlfriend Dana, and sparks fly between the adults when Dana's mother Susan arrives to pick her up. Eric works hard at the station, starstruck by pompous weatherman Cal Kilbride and doing extra favors for the staff, though Mr. Williams also reminds him to keep up with school as well. The storm continues, and when Kilbride goes on vacation, Eric is thrilled to be allowed to fill in for him on-air. At home, his family congratulates him, but Feeny tells him that he must write a 2,000-word paper by the end of the week or else he will not graduate. Faced with the choice between school and his new job, Eric decides to drop out.
On his eighteenth birthday, Eric maintains his refusal to attend school, and Alan decides to treat him "like an adult" and demands that he start paying his own way in the household. Susan and Turner go on a date, much to the concern of Shawn and Dana, who worry that they will be like siblings if things go well between the two. However, the couple returns and explains that they have decided to end things for the sake of their kids' relationship. Eric continues reporting on the air and is given a surprise party of sorts by the news staff, but then learns that a "real" weatherman is coming to take over the post, as he is too young and cannot have the position full-time. When he asks to return to his internship, he learns that it is only for students and that he no longer qualifies, having dropped out. Alan arrives and explains that his relationship with his own father was damaged when he entered the Navy rather than college, and that he does not want the same to happen with Eric. The two make up, and Eric writes Mr. Feeny's paper and asks to return to class. Feeny is still annoyed, but realizes that Eric learned a valuable lesson after all and accepts him back. Elsewhere, Dana and Shawn happily resume their relationship, but are then upset to see Turner spending the evening with Dana's aunt. Includes commercials and promos.
