LOIS & CLARK: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN: BIG GIRLS DON'T FLY {THIRD SEASON FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The third season finale in this fantasy adventure series chronicling the exploits of newspaper reporters Lois Lane and Clark Kent (a.k.a. Superman). In this episode, Clark rescues citizens from a burning building and is shocked to receive a telepathic call from "Sarah," a woman in his office, who summons him aboard her spacecraft and reveals that she is really Zara, a citizen of New Krypton, a planet formed after the destruction of Krypton. She explains that she had to test him in order to verify his worthiness, and reveals that according to Kryptonian tradition, she is his wife, and he must return to New Krypton with her to rule and to avoid civil war. He explains the situation to a stunned Lois, admitting that he is interested to discover his true heritage, but she tells him that his real home is on Earth. Lois confronts Zara, who explains that should Clark refuse to come with her, their marriage is nullified and she will be wed to the evil Lord Nor, who wants to rule New Krypton and has sent an assassin, Tez, after Clark. Tez, meanwhile, travels to the Kent home and demands Clark's whereabouts, shapeshifting into Jonathan to fool Martha.

Clark brings Zara and her lieutenant Ching to his original spaceship, and when he and his "bride" place their hands upon it, a message appears from Jor-El urging Clark to fulfill his destiny with Zara. When he returns home, he is surprised by Martha, who is really Tez in disguise, and Tez's attempts to kill him go unnoticed because of his super-strength. When he receives a call from the real Martha, however, he realizes the trick, but Tez escapes after a brief fight. He tells Zara about the incident, and she questions his decision not to kill Tez, noting his "sloppy" Earth habits. He guesses that Ching is in love with her, explaining that his feelings for Lois are strong enough to keep him on Earth, but she is skeptical. Elsewhere, Tez impersonates Jimmy Olsen and stalks Lois at the Daily Planet office, cornering her and threatening to kill her as well as Clark. Lois begs Zara to leave and spare Clark, but Zara affirms that many lives are at stake and confesses that she too loves Ching, but is willing to be with Clark instead to save her planet. Clark explains the situation to Jonathan and Martha, and they urge him to consider whether he "believes in" the fight and to follow his conscience. Eventually, Clark decides to leave for New Krypton, meaning that Lois must stay behind.

They quickly realize that Tez is using Clark's strength against him, but he manages to evade his powers and finally defeats him in a fight. Nor speaks to Clark, however, telling him that their battle is not over. Clark then reluctantly prepares to depart Earth, and a distraught Lois gives him her engagement ring to wear as a reminder of her. Superman then gives a televised speech about his need to leave despite his love for Earth, and the Daily Planet staff bids him farewell, though Clark is conspicuously absent. He then shares an emotional goodbye with Jonathan and Martha, and Clark, Zara and Ching fly off into space, where Clark dons his New Kryptonian uniform. Lois mourns her loss, but hears Clark calling to her from afar, reaffirming his love for her. Includes commercials.
