OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN: HOLLYWOOD NIGHTS (TV)
Summary
A Hollywood-themed music special hosted by Olivia Newton-John.
The special begins with Newton-John singing "Hollywood Nights" as her various guests come in. She then sings a medley featuring "Deeper Than the Night," "Hopelessly Devoted to You," and "A Little More Love." Ted Knight and Dick Clark appear periodically as part of a recurring comedy sketch featuring humorous cutaway scenes. Newton-John and Andy Gibb sing "I Can't Help It," and are joined by Cliff Richard and Elton John for "Oh Boy." Newton-John and Richard sing "Suddenly," a song from their recent film "Xanadu." A clip is shown of Newton-John with singer Pat Carroll from 1968, followed by an appearance by Gene Kelly, Newton-John's other co-star in "Xanadu." They discuss the movie-making process before singing "Makin' Movies" (a parody of "Makin Whoopee").
Newton-John then sings "Gimme Some Lovin'" while appearing in various costumes from well-known films. She sings "Candle in the Wind" with John, then John sings "Little Jeannie." Newton-John is joined by Toni Tennille, Tina Turner, Peaches, Karen Carpenter, Richard, John, and Gibb for "Heartache Tonight." Newton-John closes the special with "I Honestly Love You."
