Summary
One in this series of spontaneous comedy talk shows hosted by Bill Maher. Maher presides over a no-holds-barred forum whose members come from the worlds of politics, journalism, and entertainment in order to discuss current events -- no matter how controversial. The program begins as Maher presents a monologue about current events in which he comments on the following topics, among others: the recent campaign finance hearings; antics from controversial boxer Mike Tyson; and the accomplishments of Yankee player Hideki Irabu. Maher then talks with political columnist Arianna Huffington, author/analyst Jeffrey Toobin, actor Tom Arnold, and singer Naomi Judd, and they discuss the following topics, among others: Louisiana's recent strict laws concerning marriage; the pros and cons of married life; the value of marriage counseling; President Clinton's high ratings despite his scandalous personal life; "Hollywood values" and people's interest in the economy over immoral behavior; Clinton's attempts to preserve his marriage despite the affair with Monica Lewinsky; statistics about Americans' religious beliefs; debate about personal belief versus outward action; Clinton's likability and habit of mocking his own rhetoric; a group of high schoolers' commitment to abstinence; and debate about the value of a "pure" relationship.
