NANNY, THE: A PUP IN PARIS {THIRD SEASON FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The third season finale in this clash-of-cultures comedy series about Fran Fine, a flamboyant, wisecracking Jewish woman from Queens employed as a nanny by the upper-crust widower Maxwell Sheffield of Park Avenue. In this episode, Maxwell prepares to jet off to Paris, having just learned that his irresponsible younger brother Nigel has purchased a nightclub. Yetta arrives to visit Fran, but Fran realizes that Maxwell has taken the wrong bag and hurries to catch him on his flight, though she naturally ends up stuck in the first-class closet as the plane takes off for France. Yetta spends time with the Sheffield children as a flustered Maxwell realizes that Fran has come along for the ride, and C.C. is exasperated to learn that Nanny Fine gets to visit Paris and she does not. Maxwell and Fran find themselves sharing an elegant suite at the hotel, and when Nigel arrives to talk with Maxwell, she is forced to intervene and stop the brothers' squabble. She urges Maxwell to give the nightclub a try, though she first happily drags him out for a day of sightseeing and shopping, while back in New York C.C. and Niles are intrigued to hear that the boss and the nanny are sharing a room.

Nigel's nightclub turns out to be a surprising success, largely thanks to special guest performer Eartha Kitt, who takes an interest in both Sheffield boys. Maxwell, inspired by his brother's actions, decides that he is going to change his stuffy life and "get his passion back," much to Fran's amusement. On their return flight, however, the plane encounters serious turbulence and, fearing that they are moments from death, Maxwell kisses Fran passionately and declares his love for her.
