NANNY, THE: DEEP THROAT (TV)

Summary

One in this clash-of-cultures comedy series about Fran Fine, a flamboyant, wisecracking Jewish woman from Queens employed as a nanny by the upper-crust widower Maxwell Sheffield of Park Avenue. In this episode, Niles and Fran grow exasperated waiting on the three children, who are all ill with the flu. C.C. excitedly prepares for her sorority reunion, planning to show Maxwell off as her date to her former friends, jealous that they are all settled down with families and glamorous careers. Fran takes Gracie to the doctor, worried that she is not improving, though the doctor pronounces her healthy. Upon glancing at Fran's throat, however, he declares that she must have her tonsils removed. An anxious Fran checks into the hospital, aided by Maxwell, C.C., Niles and the kids, and begins causing trouble immediately by stealing her roommate's dinner and inadvertently trapping her in her folding bed.

The family visits again right before Fran is taken into surgery, and upon seeing her growing anxiety, Maxwell decides to stay with at the hospital, promising an impatient C.C. that he will catch up with her at the reunion. C.C. is forced to attend alone and endure her friends' pity when she admits that she is not yet married. The nurse administers the anesthetic and then quickly obtains Fran's signature on the release forms, and Maxwell is stunned when Fran woozily declares her love for him before being wheeled off. He frets to Niles that she has been pining for him and declares that she is "just the nanny" to him, though this seems unlikely as he begins listing her good qualities. When Fran returns after her successful surgery, however, Maxwell learns that under the influence of the drugs, she in fact "loves" everyone she sees. Maxwell finally makes it to the reunion, only to find a drunk C.C. alone with the janitor. Later, the kids are forced to care for an ill Niles and a recuperating Fran, though C.C.'s gloating over their discomfort is short-lived. Commercials deleted.
