SEINFELD: THE RAINCOATS {PARTS 1 AND 2} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series set in New York City in which comedian Jerry Seinfeld plays himself. Humorous situations in his personal life are interspersed with brief stand-up comedy routines.

In this two-part episode, Jerry struggles through the last few days of his parents' stay at his apartment before setting off on their anniversary trip to Paris. When Alec asks George to be a "big brother" to a young boy, Joey, George decides to fake an "emergency" trip to Paris by having the Seinfelds mail off some phony postcards. Kramer boasts about his new find, Rudy's, a secondhand shop specializing in vintage clothing, and Jerry's parents attempt to avoid dinner with George's folks, admitting that they "don't care for" the loud and rambunctious Costanzas. Elaine introduces her new "close-talker" boyfriend Aaron, who immediately takes a shine to the Seinfelds and escorts them to the Met. Jerry scrambles to find a few parent-free minutes to spend with his new flame, Rachel.

Morty spots Kramer's unusual beltless trenchcoat and happily reveals that he actually invented "the executive" many years ago. Kramer explains that they're now a "hot item" at Rudy's and offers to help sell Morty's surplus supply for a 25 percent cut. George's escape plan fails when Alec explains that Joey's absentee dad actually lives in Paris, meaning that George can now engineer a reunion. Morty calls his irascible neighbor Jack Klompus in Florida and instructs him to retrieve the box of "executives" and ship them ASAP. George decides to sell some of his "late" father's unused clothes at Rudy's for cash, and when he runs into Kramer, he is outraged to learn that the Seinfelds intentionally avoided dining with his parents. Aaron continues inviting Morty and Helen along on his outings with Elaine, and Jack claims that he can't get into the garage to retrieve the raincoats. Frank and Estelle decide to take a cruise and are confused by the sudden disappearance of Frank's "cabana wear"; Jerry and Rachel, finally granted some alone time at the movies, are unable to resist some inappropriate behavior during "Schindler's List" -- and are spotted by Newman.

George suggests to Kramer that 25 percent is an insufficient "finder's fee," while elsewhere Morty decides that Kramer deserves no more than 10 percent. Rudy informs George that he was forced to burn Frank's moth-ridden clothes, and Elaine, still bewildered by "certifiably nice" Aaron, informs Jerry that "Schindler's List" is hardly a make-out movie. Newman rats Jerry out to his parents, who are appalled by his disrespect for the very serious Holocaust story, and Morty, learning that Jack broke a window to get into the garage, decides that they will have to forgo the charter flight to Paris in order to receive the box of coats. Frank immediately realizes George's trick when he spots Kramer wearing a suspiciously familiar shirt; George quickly seizes the opportunity for a free trip to Paris and takes Joey along after all. Frank and Morty end up arguing at Rudy's, while Rudy declares that he's no longer buying clothes from customers, not even "the executives," thanks to the moth debacle. Jerry finally sends his parents back to Florida, and Aaron laments that he "could have done more" to make their NYC trip more enjoyable. Rachel's father, having also learned about the make-out incident from a certain gossipy postman, denounces Jerry's "weak moral fiber." Morty and Helen decide to replace their Paris trip with a cruise -- and they soon run into Estelle and Frank on the boat. Commercials deleted.
