SABRINA, THE TEENAGE WITCH: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE LUAU {THIRD SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a teenage witch named Sabrina who lives with her two aunts, who are also witches, and their talking cat, Salem.
The Spellmans are holding their family reunion in Hawaii. Salem has a new cat friend, Lola, who is pregnant with kittens. Sabrina asks Harvey, who has been busy with attending to his pregnant mother, to look after Salem and Lola while she’s away at the reunion. Sabrina surreptitiously gives Harvey a potion which allows him to communicate with Salem, although he doesn’t seem to comprehend this change.
Upon their arrival in Hawaii, Hilda and Zelda tell Sabrina that she can’t join in any of the festivities until she solves the family secret once and for all. She receives the final clue to the secret from Pele, the island’s volcano goddess and cousin of the Spellman family. The clue is a ball of string, mystifying Sabrina. While Sabrina ponders the solution, Zelda manages to inadvertently embarrass herself in front of the extended Spellman family.
Salem calls Sabrina, asking her for help in calming Lola’s incessant crying. He promises to help her with the solution to the secret if she arrives. She appears there and Salem informs her that the string is actually twine. Sabrina uses magic to calm down Lola’s pregnancy pains while Harvey’s mother arrives, complaining of her own pains. Sabrina returns to Hawaii and with Salem’s final piece of assistant solves the family secret: “every member of the Spellman family is born with a twin.”
Upon solving the secret, Sabrina is instantly transported to the reunion, where she meets her own twin, Katrina. Sabrina and Katrina spend the day together, getting along nicely. However, Hilda and Zelda have bad news: all pairs of witch twins have one twin who is good and the other who is evil. Evil twins are banished from the mortal realm, and they must determine whether Sabrina or Katrina is the evil twin.
At the trial of Sabrina and Katrina, Sabrina wins the question portion of the trial by demonstrating concern for a lost dog rather than answering the question. However, a review of Katrina’s use of magic proves it is far less selfish than Sabrina’s own magic use. When asked to provide a recent example of unselfish magic use, Sabrina cites her comforting of Lola, which in her mind speaks favorably of her. As she ponders whether or not she is the good twin, Salem calls, reporting that Harvey’s mother is in the hospital. The doctors’ tests reveal purring noises from her womb, indicating that Sabrina’s spell accidentally transferred Lola’s kittens to Harvey’s mother.
Sabrina transports herself to the hospital with Lola, where she manages to distract both the doctors and Harvey long enough to reverse the spell. She comes to the realization that her meddling with Lola and Harvey’s mother was done for purely selfish reasons, thus she is the evil twin. Harvey spots Sabrina in the hospital and she tells him that she won’t be able to see him anymore, making it seem that her family has decided to move to Hawaii. Harvey is upset at this news but is busy accompanying his mother.
At her trial, Sabrina is declared evil and sentence is passed. Hilda and Zelda weren’t being entirely truthful: as an evil twin, Sabrina cannot exist in any world and must be destroyed. This is to be accomplished by shoving her into a volcano, as lava is the only substance that can destroy a witch. When asked to, Katrina gladly shoves Sabrina into the lava, but Sabrina catches herself on a hanging branch. The judge notes that no good twin would ever consent to pushing their evil twin into the lava, thus Katrina is declared the evil twin and Sabrina is saved.
While hanging for her life, Sabrina receives a call from Salem telling her that both Lola’s and Harvey’s mothers deliveries went fine. Sabrina falls but Zelda saves her. Katrina is sent to live in a “twin city” in the other realm. Pele arrives and Sabrina finally receives her witches’ license, along with a warning from Hilda and Zelda about the new powers and responsibilities she will have to contend with. The episode ends as Harvey takes Lola and her kittens home with him. Includes commercials.
