NORM SHOW, THE: DRIVE, NORM SAID (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a former professional hockey player who is employed as a social worker in order to meet the terms of his court-appointed community service. Kyra, a woman who works at the office, is almost universally loathed amongst her co-workers. Norm prepares for a date by pretending to be a cardiologist and researching medical information. Laurie's plan for a van to deliver food to the homeless is granted funding, but she has concealed the fact that she doesn't have a driver's license and is content to run the program while someone else drives. Norm shows up at the bar for his date and finds Kyra there waiting for her own date. When Norm's date arrives he tries to impress her with false stories about his work in heart surgery, but she quickly sees through his deception and leaves. Norm is left with Kyra, whose date has stood her up. The next day, Danny and Molly attempt to help a man named Joey, who wants to work in food preparation but can't get hired. Danny tries to tell Joey that the reason he keeps getting passed over is because of his noticeably hairy arms. Norm arrives and admits to Danny, ashamedly, that he and Kyra slept together the previous night after he had several drinks. Laurie's funding comes in for her plan, but not for her driver. Kyra reveals that Laurie has no driver's license; Norm told her several embarrassing secrets about his friends while drunk the previous night. Max orders Laurie to get a driver's license by the end of the week. Norm pulls Kyra aside to get her to stop revealing secrets like this, but Kyra ignores him and refers to Norm as her "boyfriend," making him uncomfortable. Laurie fails her driving test and can make only one more attempt before the end of the week. Norm devises a plan to help her pass by getting a test with an old Finnish driving instructor who supposedly passes everyone. Joey and his equally-hairy mother visit the office and she berates Max for his supposed bias against her son, demanding that he find him a job. Norm takes Laurie to take her test but their plan fails when they discover the Finnish instructor has been fired. Norm pretends to be Laurie's Finnish translator so that he can accompany her during the test. Laurie finds herself disgusted when the instructor starts talking about mail-order brides and begins hitting on her. During the test, Kyra's bra becomes dislodged from the sun visor and Laurie figures out that Norm had a one-night stand with her, which is how she knew about Laurie's driving troubles. Despite their heated argument, Laurie manages to pass the test; Norm points out she was too busy being angry to be nervous. Norm fakes his own death to try to get rid of Kyra, who sees through his plan and declares that their relationship is over. Includes commercials and an "ESPN Sportscenter Update" with Dan Patrick.
