SILVER SPOONS: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The premiere in this comedy series about a childlike adult millionaire and his relationship with his young but far more mature son. In this episode, Edward rides his toy train through his mansion's living room, then plays Pac-Man as lawyer Leonard Rollins and business manager Louis Morgan tell him that he's broke. Edward refuses to believe the news. As Edward tries to digest the turn of events, a twelve-year-old boy shows up on his doorstep and introduces himself as his son, Ricky. Edward says he never knew that he had a child by his ex-wife. Edward's comely secretary, Kate Summers, then tries to sort through the confusion. Over a game of foosball, Ricky and Edward start to get acquainted. Ricky says that his mother got remarried and he needs a new place to live, as he doesn't wish to go back to military school. Edward ultimately tells Ricky that he doesn't want him to stay. Later, a dejected Ricky overhears Louis phoning his girlfriend with news that he cheated Edward out of all his money. Ricky manipulates Louis into showing him Edwards' bank account on the computer. Ricky then shows the figures to Edward and Leonard, who realize what Louis has done. Leonard alerts the police to arrest Louis. Edward subsequently tells Kate to drive Ricky back to military school, afraid that he can't be a good father. A tearful Ricky takes a picture of his father before returning to the institution. There, Ricky's roommate Derek torments him. When Ricky is alone, Edward -- dressed as a swamp creature -- sneaks into the room and asks the boy to come live with him. Ricky accepts and closes the door on a confused Derek. Commercials deleted.
