MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, THE {HOSTS: THE BEE GEES; SKEETER DAVIS; JERRY LEE LEWIS; GLADYS KNIGHT & THE PIPS; JOHNNY NASH; WAYNE COCHRAN & THE C.C. RIDERS; JIM WEATHERLY; FRANK WELKER} (TV)

Summary

One in this late-late night rock music series.

The hosts of this episode, The Bee Gees, open the program with "To Love Somebody," after which Jerry Lee Lewis performs "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," followed by Gladys Knight and the Pips with "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)". Comedian (and future prolific voice actor) Frank Welker demonstrates some "lovely sounds," including a dog and cat fighting, followed by impressions of Marlon Brando in "The Godfather" (1972), trumpeter Herb Alpert, and some caroling ducks.

Next, Johnny Nash sings "Stir It Up," The Bee Gees perform "Lonely Days," and Knight, whose record "Imagination" has just hit gold status, introduces Jim Weatherly, who performs "You Are a Song." The Bee Gees join Lewis for "Money (That's What I Want)", and Lewis salutes Little Richard with a medley of "Good Golly, Miss Molly" and "Tutti Frutti." Skeeter Davis sings "One Tin Soldier" from the film "Billy Jack" (1971), and The Bee Gees perform "Saw a New Morning." and Knight and the Pips perform "I Heard It Through the Grapevine."

The Bee Gees perform a medley of "New York Mining Disaster 1941," "I Started a Joke," "Massachusetts," and "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart," and Nash performs his hit "I Can See Clearly Now." Finally, Davis closes the show with "The End of the World." Commercials deleted.
