LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: THE STAKEOUT (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.

In this episode, Laverne and Shirley return from grocery shopping to find strangers in their apartment. Despite initial alarm, Edna arrives and explains that Ronald Williams and Herb Prange are F.B.I. agents who need to use the apartment for a stakeout. The men explain that a counterfeiter is operating across the street and they want to catch him in the act. Later, Frank, Lenny, and Squiggy drop by and are shocked to learn about the setup.

Things take an unexpected twist when the suspected counterfeiter is about to pick up a package on the sidewalk, which the men assume will contain counterfeiting plates. However, Carmine turns out to be the person holding the package. Laverne dresses up as a streetwalker to distract the agents while Shirley tries to sneak out of the apartment and warn Carmine that he's about to be arrested. After the agents catch her, Shirley then tries to give a note to Squiggy which he can give to Carmine, but that plan also fails.

When Carmine knocks on the apartment door, the agents handcuff him. As they open the package he's carrying, they find it contains tap shoes, which the suspected counterfeiter' was buying for his daughter. The agents then learn that the real accomplice has been apprehended elsewhere. Later, over a meal with the girls, Carmine finds a $50 bill that was given to him by the suspect, which he subsequently questions as a counterfeit. Commercials deleted.
