LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: BOWLING FOR RAZZBERRIES (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.

In this episode, Laverne promises Shirley to ignore the insults of Karen, the brewery's snooty tour guide. When Karen's remarks prove sharper than ever, the girls plot revenge by beating Karen's team in the company bowling tournament. That night, while passing on champion bowler tips to her teammates -- including a defensive Shirley -- Laverne comes down with a fever. But after Lenny and Squiggy pass on Karen's latest quips against Laverne, nothing can keep her from the game.

The next day, Carmine stops by the girls' apartment and tells Laverne that she's the only hope for the team. He also alerts the girls to a mission charity worker who's canvassing the apartments for clothing donations, bragging that he's just donated many pairs of his white socks. When Carmine leaves to buy more socks, Shirley calls a doctor to look in on Laverne. Laverne is attracted to the handsome physician, at least until he forbids her from bowling and gives her some sleeping pills. When Laverne wakes, she finds Shirley has hidden all clothes in the apartment to keep her from leaving. However, Laverne meets up with the charity worker and -- since the only donation she's received were Carmine's white socks -- gets the woman to surrender her mission outfit.

A heavily drugged Laverne shows up at the tournament in the mission clothes and -- despite staggering -- matches Karen's bowling prowess, strike for strike. Shirley is ecstatic when their team ultimately wins the championship. The only bad news is that Laverne is too sick to give Karen a much-anticipated Bronx cheer. Includes commercials.
