SPIN CITY: YOU'VE GOT MALE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about the Deputy Mayor of New York City and his co-workers at City Hall as they deal with problems both professional and personal. Stuart is commissioned to write the script for a pornographic film, and he eagerly accepts the task. Caitlin comes to believe that she is being excluded from important decisions around the office because she is a woman; she begins to view the mayor's office as a "boy's club." She challenges Charlie on this point; a real estate developer named Daniel Bryant is hearing proposals from the mayor's office about a new project, and Caitlin decides that she and Charlie will submit their own proposals and see which one wins out. The mayor enters a father-son golf tournament and enlists Paul as his "son." When Paul demonstrates that he excels at golf, the mayor starts giving him more of his time and attention, much to Paul's delight. Meanwhile, Stuart has trouble writing his pornographic film and enlists the aid of Carter to do some rewrite work. Charlie approaches Bryant a day early with his proposal to build new basketball courts, angering Caitlin and seemingly confirming her beliefs that her ideas are being passed over simply because she is a woman. Charlie invites her out with himself and Bryant to give her a chance to voice her ideas. Paul spends more time with the mayor both in and out of the office, growing further attached to him, like a son to his father. Carter gives Caitlin advice on how to act in a "typical" male fashion. When she goes out that night to a restaurant with Charlie and Bryant she takes Carter's advice and begins swilling beer and making lewd comments in an attempt to fit in, and seems to make an impression on Bryant. Meanwhile, Carter makes suggestions on how to improve Stuart's script, and Stuart takes to them readily. Paul grows upset that the mayor didn't attend his press conference and begins talking like a spoiled child, locking himself away from the mayor. Eventually Caitlin, Charlie, and Bryant end up at a strip club, where Caitlin tries to convince Bryant to hear out her proposal of using the real estate project to build an interactive arts center. However, before she can finish Caitlin inadvertently provokes a fight with another patron, ending with Charlie getting punched in the face. Caitlin manages to win the real estate proposal, but doesn't like what she had to do to get it. Charlie says he should have listened to her better and points out that they are on the same side, and that he relies on her contributions more than she realizes. The episode ends with a screening of the pornographic film written by Stuart and Carter. Includes commercials.
