Summary
One in this series of comedies about Dick and Joanna Loudon, who run a country inn in Vermont.
In the second half of this two-part episode, Dick and Joanna are taken aback when Michael and Stephanie excitedly announce their plans to marry and ask the Loudons to be their matron of honor and "best muchacho." George is thrilled to be named head usher, and Larry and the Darryls, who have long nursed crushes on Stephanie, invite themselves to the nuptials. Everyone heads to Arthur and Marian's mansion, and Michael makes a formal proposal with an admittedly tiny diamond ring. Dick complains to Joanna that the happy couple has not seriously considered the matter of marriage or made any serious plans for the future; Joanna advises him to keep quiet.
Dick offers an unusual toast at the hastily planned wedding shower; when Michael asks for his honorary father's blessing, Dick is forced to admit that he does not truly approve of their impulsive decision, as marriage requires actual work. Distraught, Michael and Stephanie fret that, because dating is no longer fun for them, their only options are to marry or break up. Dick eventually gives in and offers a halfhearted blessing. As the ceremony begins, however, Stephanie and Michael agree that the excitement of planning the wedding has faded and left them with only a "big, fat marriage" ahead of them. They abruptly put an end to the proceedings and decide to stay "engaged forever," much to the guests' confusion. Commercials deleted.
