MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, THE: LOU'S SECOND DATE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about Mary Richards, a single career woman working in a television newsroom.

In this episode, Ted decides to embrace his "youthful image" with some slow-acting hair dye, and Lou, in desperate need of a date for a formal work affair, is forced to ask Mary to accompany him. Mary soon comes down with a bug, however, and recruits Rhoda to go in her place. Later, the staffers debate what get-well greeting to send to Mary, and Lou, surprised to realize that he genuinely enjoyed his night out, invites Rhoda out again, much to Sue Ann's chagrin.

Mary prods Rhoda for details about her unusual new friendship, and Rhoda describes her relief at spending time with someone without any pressure or suggestive questions. Back at the office, everyone seems to think that Lou and Rhoda are officially "an item," and Ted changes his mind about his new look upon learning that younger women apparently like older, silver-coiffed men. Rhoda, confused by the back-and-forth gossip, decides to make a home-cooked meal for Lou, and he awkwardly questions her about their "item" status. Rhoda suggests that they should curtail their friendship to avoid future whispers at the office, but Lou decides to ignore his underlings' suspicions and eagerly invites her to a hockey game. Later, Lou finds a clever way to shake off a nosy Sue Ann. Commercials deleted.
