NEWHART: BORN TO BE MILD (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies about Dick and Joanna Loudon, who run a country inn in Vermont.
In this episode, George reminisces about his past in a teenage "gang," the Hooligans, alongside Jim and Chester. He decides to reunite with his old pals, and they soon get the idea to resurrect the gang, inviting a very reluctant Dick to join them for extra "credibility." "Brains" Loudon is appointed the new leader of the group, and they excitedly pick out matching jackets to signify their unity, though George, naturally, bungles the order and accidentally dubs them the "Hooligals."
The Hooligals then receive a very polite invitation from a longtime rival gang, the Ruffians, to join them in a "rumble." Joanna is highly amused as Dick declines the request, but the Ruffians then mock him for "turkeying out." He and the other Hooligals turn up in a tidy back alley at the appointed time. The Ruffians – or rather, the "Puffians" – arrive for the fight, and Dick is embarrassed when their trash-talk takes the form of mocking grammatical errors in his latest book. Realizing that a full-scale rumble is unnecessary, Dick and Puffians leader Beauty decide to settle things with an arm-wrestling contest. Dick employs somewhat dishonest methods and wins. Defeated, the Puffians retreat, promising to meet their enemies again in a year's time. Commercials deleted.
