WILL & GRACE: THE YOUNG AND THE TACTLESS (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about the friendship between Will Truman, a gay lawyer, and Grace Adler, a straight interior decorator. Jack and Will prepare to attend the reopening of one of their favorite nightclubs. Meanwhile, Karen is panicking because her mother-in-law is in town and she wants to avoid her, but Will advises that she try to get along with her. Grace angrily confronts a man named Nathan living in a nearby apartment who took her wet laundry out of the dryer. Nathan brushes off her complaints and busies himself with trying to win his girlfriend back by making her a mix tape. Grace believes his idea is stupid, but Nathan gets rid of her by criticizing her relationship with Will. She leaves, indignant. Will and Jack prepare to attend the club opening but Karen arrives with her mother-in-law Sylvia, who seems far less intimidating than Karen made her out to be. At first Karen seems to be following Will's advice, but she leaves Sylvia behind with Will and Jack, forcing them to take her to the club with them. They call Karen to try to persuade her to pick up Sylvia, but they quickly realize that she doesn't intend to come. Grace confronts Nathan once again, rebutting his insults. Back at the club, Will laments aloud about his romantic failures. Sylvia offers advice: that he will have to change if he wants his life to change. Will begins to see the logic of this line of reasoning. Grace once again visits Nathan, who is still trying to reconcile with his girlfriend by making a papier-mâché sculpture of her name. Grace mocks this attempt and Nathan figures out that she wants to give him romantic advice. She ends up advising him to do something romantic for his girlfriend, to "do something that will take her breath away." At the club, Will is recognized by a young employee at a nearby video rental store who seems to take an interest in him. He invites Will out on a date; Will refuses at first but remembers Sylvia's advice and decides to give it a try. He thanks Sylvia for her help, but she is horrified to learn that Will and Jack are gay and leaves in a fury. Once again Grace returns to Nathan's apartment, this time lured there by him on purpose. He answers the door in a suit and reveals that he set up his apartment in a Venetian theme, complete with a table and a candle-lit dinner, in order to impress his girlfriend. At first he appears to be merely demonstrating the environment to Grace, but he soon admits that his girlfriend was not impressed by his efforts and he's actually taken an interest in Grace, whom he can't stop thinking about. Grace insults him and his efforts but he interrupts her with a kiss, which convinces her to go on a single date with him. The episode ends as Will returns Sylvia to Karen. Commercials deleted.
