QUEER AS FOLK {U.S. VERSION}: VERY STUPID PEOPLE (TV)

Summary

One in this series about the day-to-day lives of a circle of gay and lesbian friends living in Pittsburgh.

In this episode, Brian hears a proposal for an ad campaign from some of his subordinates, but is unimpressed with their work. A new employee, Kip, suggests a simpler approach, and Brian approves. Melanie and Lindsay attend a baby shower for their friends Franny and Zoe, who consider them “role models” for young lesbian mothers, which makes Mel uncomfortable. She commiserates with another woman, Marianne, who is similarly uninterested in the event. Later, Mel and Lindsay continue arguing about their relationship, proving that they are not as perfect as they seem. At Babylon, Brian mentions their annual trip to a party in Provincetown, and Emmett calls Matt, his new “ex-gay” friend from See the Light, an orientation conversion group. Matt encourages Emmett to continue on the path to his “true self” and resist temptation, suggesting that his friends might be holding him back. Kip visits Brian again and suggestively thanks him for the job opportunity. Brian informs him that he always “makes the first move” and they have sex in his office. Michael is shocked at the risk, but Brian seems unconcerned.

Ted and Michael find that Emmett is getting rid of his gay-related paraphernalia, and are stunned when he reveals that he is trying to go straight. They try to tell him that the See the Light group is harmful, but he remains determined. Later, Michael and Ted learn that their favorite adult film star, Zack O’Tool, is performing in a “play,” and they attend. When they meet Zack outside, Ted offers him a thousand dollars to help Emmett by making a “personal appearance.” Justin invites Brian to go to Babylon with him, but Brian desists, saying he has to work. Justin leaves as Kip arrives, although he and Brian do not end up getting much business done. Mel escapes a tense evening with Lindsay and goes to a bar with Marianne, saying she is "a relief.” They end up in bed together at Marianne’s apartment, and Mel returns home late, clearly upset over her actions, although she avoids Lindsay’s questions. Zack visits Emmett, who is shocked to see his favorite celebrity at his door, and Zack propositions him. At work, Kip asks Brian for a recommendation for a higher position, but Brian refuses, saying Kip is not yet experienced enough.

Franny and Zoe have their baby and Lindsay meets Marianne when they visit their friends at the hospital. Linsday and Mel reminisce about the night Gus was born, and Mel ends up confessing her dalliance, causing Lindsay to leave. Later, Mel packs her things and leaves their home to stay with a relative, saying a sad goodbye to Gus before she goes. Ted and Michael ask Emmett about his night with Zack, but Emmett says that he managed to resist even him; when his friends grow angry that he is still denying his true self, Emmett says that he needs to stop spending time with them, as they are not supportive of his choice. Kip confronts Brian at Babylon and says he “owes” him the recommendation because they are both gay and should help each other. Brian counters that hard work and perseverance are the only ways to success. Later, he is disturbed to learn that Kip is suing him for sexual harassment, saying Brian promised him assistance at work in exchange for sexual favors. Commercials deleted.
