CHEERS: KING OF THE HILL (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a group of regulars at a Boston bar. In this episode, Coach buys an overpriced pool table adaptor, though it proves mostly unpopular with patrons. Norm attempts to avoid his visiting mother-in-law, ignoring Diane's suggestions of good sightseeing locations. A publicist then arrives looking for Sam, revealing that he has agreed to play in a charity softball game, and they are all surprised by his uncharacteristic altruism until they learn that the opposing team is comprised of Playboy Playmates. Sam happily poses for publicity stills with the girls as the men ogle and Diane grows exasperated, though she claims not to care about Sam's womanizing ways.

After the game, Cliff and Norm can only comment on the girls' "talents" rather than the score, but Sam returns to the bar victorious, having won the game. The others point out that the game was merely for charity, but seeing that Sam is clearly taking it more seriously, Diane confronts him about his competitive nature, suggesting that a fear of losing drove him to drink and damaged his professional sports career. He realizes that she is right and begins reminiscing about his overly critical parents, though they fall into another argument when she attempts to talk about her own issues with her father. He accuses her of being just as competitive as he is, and challenges her to a ping-pong match to prove his point. They end up playing late into the night, with most of the patrons leaving the bar, until Diane suggests that they both stop and admit they have a problem. Sam finally relents, and Diane quickly scores the winning point. Commercials deleted.
