ED, EDD, N EDDY: IS THERE AN ED IN THE HOUSE?/AN ED IS BORN (TV)
Summary
One in this animated series about a trio of boys who all share the same name and their various attempts to scam money from the neighborhood kids in their cul-de-sac. In "Is There an Ed in the House?," the Eds are running a photography booth scam when they discover that Sarah is sick and Jimmy is caring for her. Ed is concerned and rushes to tend to her himself; he and Jimmy each try to outdo each other and soon find themselves in competition for Sarah's praise. Eddy doesn't approve of Ed bowing to Sarah's whims, but changes his mind when Edd proposes a "paging system" whereby Ed could serve Eddy in his scams and still be available for Sarah. To that end, Edd installs a bell above Sarah's bed. Undeterred by his previous failure, Eddy tries a driving school scam, with Edd serving as driving instructor. Soon Sarah calls for Ed and Jimmy and he abandons the scam, causing Edd and Nazz to careen out of control and crash. Jimmy and Ed's ministrations soon irritate Sarah, and she decides to manipulate them for her amusement. Eddy convinces Ed to stand up for himself and he yells at her and throws Jimmy out of the house. He relents when Sarah starts crying, but this is merely a ruse and she takes the opportunity to beat Ed up. Edd is upset to find he has caught Sarah's cold and Jimmy offers to take care of him. Eddy, defeated, simply goes home. "An Ed is Born" opens as Rolf tracks down his chickens, stolen by Ed so that he could train them to perform tricks. His angry rant is interrupted by Eddy's arrival, bearing with him a package sent by his older brother. He is embarrassed to find it contains baby items such as a pacifier and a rattle, indicating that his older brother still thinks of him as a baby. Ed suggests making a home movie to help Eddy show his brother that he is grown up. Edd is surprised to find that Ed keeps a video camera in his dryer, enabling them to shoot the movie. Eddy uses props and chicanery to attempt to convince his brother that he is rich and well-respected in the cul-de-sac, but their filmed interactions with the neighborhood kids quickly dispel this notion: Kevin gives Eddy a wedgie, Sarah and Jimmy get Ed to push Eddy around, and Rolf chases after them, still enraged over the theft of his chickens. When the Eds attempt to film at the junkyard, the Kanker sisters ambush Eddy and they barely escape. Finally Eddy attempts to fabricate a party in his room surrounded by mobile cardboard cutouts of the neighborhood kids, and film it for his brother's benefit. However, Rolf soon disrupts the filming; Ed took his chickens once again in order to make the cardboard cutouts move. Just as the camera's batteries expire, Edd remarks that they have inadvertently given Eddy's brother a clear image of his life in the cul-de-sac. Commercials deleted.
