SHUIHU ZHUAN: YEZHU LIN {OUTLAWS IN THE MARSH:
WILD BOAR FOREST} {PART 6} {MANDARIN CHINESE} (TV)

Summary

The second of two programs on this tape. Part six of forty-three in this television adaptation of the classic Chinese novel, "Outlaws in the Marsh," written by Shi Naian in the late-1300s.  This adaptation closely follows the novel, which tells the story of how a group known as the 108 Outlaws from Shuihu come together and rebel against the Song Dynasty (AD 960-1279). Part six continues to focus on Lin Chong and Lu Da, who are to become two of the 108 Outlaws later in the series.

Part six picks up with Lin Chong still on his way to the prison work camp in Cangzhou. Lin Chong is continuously abused by the two wardens who are transporting him: they force him to wash his feet in hot boiling water, throw away his shoes, give him smaller size shoes to wear, then finally take the shoes away, making him to walk barefoot for most of the journey. When they arrive in a deserted place known as the Wild Boar Forest, the wardens tie Lin Chong onto a big tree and plan to murder him, since they were already paid by Gao Yanei to do so, but Lu Da arrives at the nick of time to stop them. Lu Da has been following Lin Chong since he left Dongjing (Eastern Capitol), but just managed to catch up with him now to rescue him. Lu Da then insists that they should run away immediately, but Lin Chong doesn't want to live the rest of his life as a fugitive and flatly refuses. Without a better solution, Lu Da accompanies them on their remaining journey to Cangzhou. Lu Da forces the two wardens to take good care of Lin Chong on the remaining journey: piggybacking Lin Chong until his feet have recovered, washing and nursing Lin Chong’s feet to recovery, paying for hotel fees and meals, etc. When they approach Cangzhou, Lu Da leaves to go on his own way. Lin Chong then meets a fairly wealthy man named Chai Jin, who has heard of Lin Chong’s well-known name before and invites Lin Chong to his home to stay for a few days. During his stay, Lin Chong wins a fight over a martial arts teacher who is employed in the Chai household. Afterwards, Chai Jin has even more respect for Lin Chong, so he writes letters to the prison work camp officials, asking them to treat Lin Chong well. Upon Lin Chong's arrival at the prison work camp, the two wardens go back to Dongjing, where they report all the happenings of their journey to Gao Yanei. Part six ends with Gao Yanei again scheming with his close bodyguards to send some men to murder Lin Chong in Cangzhou.
