MY WIFE AND KIDS: THE ANNIVERSARY {SEASON TWO FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series starring Damon Wayans as an old-fashioned husband and father who struggles to adapt to the modern ways of his wife and three kids.
The upcoming weekend is Michael’s and Janet’s fifteenth anniversary, and he has a special surprise planned for her. Janet’s friend Wanda gets her front-row tickets to see Brian McKnight as a gift, but cannot go because of the anniversary. Michael claims that he is going to be occupied with golfing on Saturday and needs her to be home to help set up their cable; Janet believes he is trying to make her think that he forgot their anniversary but has something special planned. Janet attempts to manipulate Junior into discovering what Michael’s plans are. Later Janet tries to broach the subject to Michael via seduction and appealing to his sensibilities, but he still pretends that he doesn’t remember their anniversary. Claire is upset after breaking up with her boyfriend Tony and Michael and Janet go to speak to her. She explains that she came to suspect that her boyfriend, Tony, was cheating on her; Michael believes that the evidence is sound but Janet thinks that Claire is jumping to conclusions and advises her to speak to Tony about the matter.
Janet comes to believe that Michael has hidden a present for her in the house and searches around for it, trying to allay Michael’s suspicions. When this fails, Janet gets Claire to try to find out more information from Michael, but this fails. Later Kady tells her about snippets she overheard from Michael, which seems to reinforce Michael’s alibi that he is playing golf that weekend. She tries to get Kady to learn more but she is unsuccessful, leading her to believe that Michael may have actually forgotten their anniversary. Claire advises Janet to talk to Michael, echoing her advice about her situation with Tony. Janet becomes passive-aggressive with Michael, trying to prod him into admitting that he forgot their anniversary. Janet purchases a gift for Michael in the form of a historically significant pair of boxing gloves; Michael was bidding on them online and she outbid him, although neither of them suspects this. Soon Janet comes to suspect that Michael has hidden a present for her in the garage and she and Wanda go to investigate, but find nothing except a bag of golf tees.
Claire receives a bouquet from Tony which Janet at first believes is for her from Michael; Claire explains that she made up with Tony and cleared up their misunderstanding. This stokes Janet’s anger and she acts more antagonistic towards Michael. She goes out for drinks with Wanda and expresses anger that Michael would act so callous towards her. Incensed, Janet races home and yells at Michael, wearing the boxing gloves she purchased. However, Michael reveals his plan: he was hoping that they would renew their wedding vows for their fifteenth anniversary, and gets down on one knee to convey to her his love and appreciation for her. He notes that he wants to have something more romantic than their initial wedding, which was essentially a shotgun marriage. Michael stages a ceremony in the backyard, complete with a minister, the attendance of their family and friends, and a guest appearance by Brian McKnight. They recite vows and the ceremony is completed. Later Michael reveals that he got McKnight to arrive by giving him the boxing gloves, and that Wanda was in on Michael’s scheme the entire time. Michael then formally introduces Janet to McKnight, much to her excitement. He leaves for his concert, but not before giving Michael the gloves back. Includes commercials.
