JOHN LEGUIZAMO'S SEXAHOLIX ... A LOVE STORY (TV)
Summary
This comedy program features a one-man performance by stand-up comedian John Leguizamo, filmed at New York City’s Beacon Theatre. Based on the Broadway play by Leguizamo, the show features the comedian talking about a variety of subjects, including dance gyrations of different nationalities; how his new son and daughter crimp his “style” his parents having “damaged” him; not having married the mother of his children; learning how poor he was as a child by attending a Fresh Air Fund camp in Vermont; his childhood buddies; how his father got out of giving Christmas presents; tormenting his younger brother; why his parents always quarreled with each other; his mother becoming a single mom after his father left the family; being brought up in the house of his stroke-afflicted grandfather; starting his own posse, call “the sexaholix’’; getting sexual advice from his gay and lesbian relatives; “blackmailing” a girlfriend into having intercourse with him; his sex life in college; having a relationship with an older woman; attending a series of eclectic seminars; experiencing “post-breakup hell”; and attending a karaoke bar with his philandering father. Following intermission, Leguizamo dances with an audience member in the aisle before addressing the following topics: dating a Latino actress after starting to act in films; finding unhappiness in his first marriage; flirting with alcoholism; moving back in with his “senile” grandparents after divorcing his wife; funeral etiquette; having an imaginary conversation with his deceased grandfather; having a Jewish girlfriend with “rules”; sharing Christmas/Chanukah with his Italian parents and Jewish “in-laws”; moving in with a lover; being pressured into having children; raising a baby daughter, followed by a son; the changes in being married after having children; and coming to terms with one’s life decisions. After the performance, Leguizamo receives a standing ovation.
