JERRY LEWIS SHOW, THE: FROM THIS MOMENT ON {MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY CHARITY EVENT} (TV)
Summary
Jerry Lewis hosts this show on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Jerry sings "From This Moment On" while open guest credits appear. He sits at a host desk and briefly talks about the Marches Against Muscular Dystrophy taking place throughout the country. Lewis then introduces Muscular Dystrophy Association poster girl Lola Lucas.
Jerry introduces actor Hy Averback and musician Bobby Darin. Darin performs on the piano with the Henry Mancini Orchestra, moves to the drums and performs again. Jerry motions for a hug from him, but never gets it.
Actor Lee Marvin speaks on the fight against muscular dystrophy, focusing on the need for research in finding a cure. He requests donations.
Jerry introduces actor/singer Vince Edwards in the audience. Dorothy Collins sings "Mountain High, Valley Low".
Hy Averback speaks about the meaning of the Muscular Dystrophy Association badge and the uses of the money contributed toward the fight against, treatment of and research on muscular dystrophy.
Jerry introduces roundtable members on stage including Allen Ludden (host of the game show Password), actress Betty White, actor Jules Munshin, singer Helen O'Connell, Mr. Magoo star Jim Backus, actress Dina Merrill, and comedians Harvey Lembeck and Milton Frome.
Jerry entertains the crowd with his crazy stage and camera antics before returning to the roundtable to play a game of charades with the stars where Lewis acts out an excerpt from a White House message signed by John F. Kennedy saluting their efforts in the fight against muscular dystrophy.
Steve Allen at the piano tells a story about a boy afflicted with muscular dystrophy.
Henry Mancini plays piccolo on "Baby Elephant Walk" with the Henry Mancini Orchestra. Jerry makes small talk with Lola Lucas. Musical actor Bobby Van joins the orchestra in a musical performance of "Shooting High" while tap dancing.
Jerry introduces his good friend and fellow comedian Ed Wynn in the audience and then dedicates a comedic "musical" performance to Wynn where Jerry pretends to conduct and mimics the musicians when they play.
Ethel Merman urges the audience to become marchers to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Andy Williams sings "Danny Boy".
Jerry introduces more celebrities on the roundtable: Allen Jones, Jan Clayton, Alan Reed, Cesar Romero, Monty Hall, Dennis James, Nobu McCarthy, Pat O'Brien, Rose Marie, Stubby Kaye, Troy Donahue, Suzanne Pleshette, Barry Sullivan, Soupy Sales, and Nick Adams. Jerry introduces audience members Arthur O'Connell and actor Maximilian Schell.
Undersecretary of the United Nations, Dr. Ralph Bunche, addresses the audience with a recorded message of thanks to those who support the efforts in the fight against muscular dystrophy.
Hugh Downs speaks on the badges worn by Muscular Dystrophy Association volunteers, and the need for donations.
Lewis says good night to Lola Lucas, who thanks everyone for their efforts.
Jerry thanks all the Muscular Dystrophy Association marchers and volunteers helping in the effort to fight muscular dystrophy, then closes the show with a performance of "You'll Never Walk Alone." Jerry is overcome with emotion by the end of the song.
