THAT '70S SHOW: THAT '70S MUSICAL (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedies, set in a small Wisconsin town during the 1970s, about Eric Forman, his family, and his friends -- Donna, Hyde, Kelso, Jackie, and Fez, who hang out in the Forman basement. In this episode, Fez excitedly invites his friends to that night's "Spring Sing," a concert in which he is starring. No one seems particularly interested, however, and Fez is further annoyed when he finds out that he was left out of a party the previous night. Nonetheless, he is excited for the concert and daydreams about performing Phyllis Hyman's "Sing A Song" with his friends as his backup band. That night, Kitty and a characteristically unamused Red show up for the concert, only to meet Fez's British music teacher, who dislikes the "horrible little man" and condemns him to the back row, saying he has no talent. Fez maintains his "high spirits," however, saying his friends will support him because they are like family, and imagines a scenario in which he and the rest of the gang perform The Turtles' "Happy Together." Bob soon arrives and reveals that none of the others are coming, and a depressed Fez imagines them all laughing at him in the basement and singing The Steve Miller Band's "The Joker." As the start of the show looms closer, he grows angry about his friends' selfishness and obsession with their own trivial problems, and imagines them singing The Everly Brothers' "Love Hurts" and mooning over their relationships. Leo arrives, but Fez is about to leave when his friends turn up after all, explaining that they were delayed because they were vandalizing the music teacher's house in support of Fez. Fez is delighted, and imagines them all singing and dancing to Peaches & Herb's "Shake Your Groove Thing." Fez then takes the stage for the concert, later retiring to the Forman's basement, where they debate who in the group is the "space cowboy," joined by the music teacher, who has been won over by their American ways.
