ALIAS: A CLEAN CONSCIENCE (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic action series about Sydney Bristow, who leads a double life as a graduate student by day and a CIA double agent by night. In this episode, the team investigates the bombing of an Indonesian embassy in Copenhagen, learning that the criminals have made no demands or statements. A fellow agent, Thomas Raines, warned the agency about the act several weeks previously but then vanished, and the team suspects that he was discovered and killed by the group's leader, Milos Kradic. Nadia leans that Sophia Vargas, the headmistress of her childhood orphanage, is coming to L.A. for a visit, but upon her arrival is shocked to see that she has been badly beaten. She explains that she was attacked in her home by unknown assailants, and Sloane declares that he considers her family and will provide her with excellent care. Jack undergoes treatment for his radiation poisoning, though Dr. Liddell reminds him that his condition is fatal and that he would do well to talk with Sydney and achieve "a clean conscience" before dying.

Dixon and Vaughn are surprised to find Raimes alive and in Kradic's company, wondering if he has been turned. Nadia tells Sophia about her newfound family, and Sophia gives her her necklace as a keepsake. Sloane asks Marshall to secretly investigate Sophia by her fingerprints, and Jack struggles to hide the physical effects of his illness. Vaughn and Dixon corner Raimes in a bathroom and demand to know why he has not checked in with his superiors, but Raimes swears that he has not betrayed them and allowed the embassy bombing to happen in order to prevent many more deaths, explaining that Kradic intends to buy a much bigger weapon, a water contaminant. They decide to keep Raimes undercover in order to allow Kradic to lead them to the weapon, and they consider a new plan when Raimes adds that he and Kradic are soon meeting with a hacker-for-hire. They quickly track down and capture the hacker, Linus Halsey, while elsewhere Nadia reflects on her rebellious past to Sydney and explains that Sophia was the only one to make her feel "special." After reading Marshall's information, Sloane questions Sophia about a man she apparently murdered, but she declares that he was a danger to her girls. She explains that her attackers were really after Nadia, and Sloane realizes that he knows who was behind it.

Sydney discovers Sloane's investigation into Sophia and angrily questions him about it, reminding him not to jeopardize Nadia's trust in him. Dixon poses as Halsey and meets with Kradic, using the real Halsey's information to convince him. Jack tells Sydney that they should try to remotely access the information from the embassy that Kradic was attempting to intercept with the bombing, and is then surprised to find some sort of computer chip embedded in his palm. Liddell tells him that it is part of his treatment, however, stating that he explained the process to Jack at the time, and Jack is disturbed to realize that the poisoning has advanced to the point of memory loss. Dixon questions Raimes about his decision to "sacrifice" the embassy employees, explaining that he himself was changed by his family and now has a different moral view. Marshall finds that the water contaminant is in Peru, though Kradic has beaten them there, and Kradic then learns from a mysterious man in glasses that an agent is embedded with his crew. He threatens to kill both Dixon and Raimes, and Raimes sacrifices himself by allowing Dixon to maintain his cover. Dixon carefully shoots him non-fatally, however, and finishes out the mission with Kradic. Jack and Sloane then tell Nadia and Sydney that Sophia was likely attacked by Elena Derevko, a former KGB assassin and the "cruelest" of the three sisters, who was apparently also surveilling the two of them for many years. It is then revealed, however, that Nadia's necklace is a transmitter and that the man in glasses is working with Sophia – who is really Elena. Includes commercials and promos.
