VERONICA MARS: AN ECHOLLS FAMILY CHRISTMAS (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series which follows the exploits of a seventeen-year-old assistant private investigator intent on solving the town of Neptune's mysteries while simultaneously trying to negotiate the rough-and-tumble world of high school. In this episode, Keith and Veronica decorate their Christmas tree, while elsewhere Logan and his friends play a high-stakes game of poker, and Logan loses five thousand dollars to unwelcome guest Weevil. When Weevil attempts to collect his winnings, however, the cash has vanished, and he is furious, stealing a Faberge egg and demanding a thousand dollars from each of them. Veronica tells Wallace about her perfect but pricey Christmas gift for her dad, and then learns that Weevil has stolen Duncan's laptop as payment for the lost money. Duncan informs her that his journal on the computer contains sensitive information about her, and she resolves to get it back. She asks Weevil about the game, and he explains that he bought his way in against Logan's wishes, considering that Logan himself could have hidden the money while everyone else was ogling his attractive mother by the pool. Lynn Echolls appeals to Keith for help, saying that her famous actor husband has a stalker. He finds that the stalker has sent several letters and urges Lynn to cancel her upcoming Christmas bash, but she refuses, even when they find a disturbing threat to Aaron's life in the form of a carved pumpkin.
Veronica informs Duncan that she may be able to recover his computer, and when Duncan sees Logan mocking the situation, he suspects that Logan is the thief and accuses him of going increasingly "dark side." When Veronica goes to Logan's house, he tells her to question Conner Larkin, the famous movie-star hunk who was also at the poker game. She goes to his film set and he explains that Logan dislikes him, particularly after he called him out on his racist comments towards Weevil at the game, and also recalls that Sean Friedrich acted like a "tightwad" and did not chip in for beer and snacks. Veronica attempts to talk to Sean, but is turned away at the door by Sean's father. Keith questions Aaron about a possible spurned lover, and though Aaron claims to be faithful to Lynn, the caterer from their Halloween party explains that Aaron forced her to fire one of her servers after the girl strayed upstairs and caught Aaron with another woman. Aaron admits that he was with his agent's wife Monica at the party, but says that she is not dangerous. At school, Sean tells Veronica that Weevil stole his Rolex as payment, suggesting that Weevil himself stole the money before winning the decisive hand. Logan and Duncan continue fighting, and Veronica announces that she knows who stole the money and will explain if she is allowed to buy her way into the game, replacing the ousted thief.
Once at the game, Veronica methodically explains why Duncan, Conner and Logan are all innocent, and then reveals that Sean stole the money and hid it in his beer bottle, later collecting it from the recycling bin. She explains that he has been pretending to be as wealthy as the rest of them, but is in fact the son of a butler, who answered the door at the house. At the Christmas party, Aaron spots Monica and his other ex-lovers, and Keith reexamines some photos and makes a call, learning that the fired server was a carving expert, meaning that she could have created the pumpkin. Veronica cleans up at the poker game and then ventures into the party with Weevil as Duncan and Logan make up. Veronica then corners Jake and accuses him of setting his head of security to spy on her, demanding to know why he ran her mother out of town, but he claims innocence. Keith, arriving at the party, observes the encounter, and Veronica sees Jake angrily questioning Celeste. As carolers arrive, one of the waitresses confronts Aaron furiously, claiming to be his ex-lover, and when he says that he does not remember her, she stabs him in front of everyone.
