BOSTON LEGAL: BREAST IN SHOW (TV)

Summary

One in this darkly comic series focusing on a firm of brilliant but emotionally-challenged attorneys in Boston. In this episode, Alan meets with Irma to discuss his "fantasies" of her, but she would rather discuss the issue of voting districts and the way they are being manipulated by politicians. She is soon involved in a topless protest for the matter and is arrested, and Alan hurries to assist her. Brad gives Holly a perfunctory job interview as a thank-you from Alan for dropping the charges against Catherine, but she is offended when she notices his disinterest. Daniel learns that the man who sued him over the drug trial has died and that the case is therefore over, but he decides to settle with the man's family anyway. He then invites Denise to his funeral, promising a fun event. Garrett is flustered when Catherine takes over his office for her sandwich business, and Paul tells him to handle it. Denny is annoyed to have missed the semi-nude protest, and in court, Alan is outraged when Holly charges Irma with a "lewd and lascivious" felony, meaning that she will have to register as a sex offender if found guilty. He confronts Brad, saying that his interview with Holly is causing her to persecute Irma unfairly. Alan then recruits Shirley, feeling that her female anatomy will be useful to their case.

Officer Minden testifies about arresting Irma, and though Alan points out that she was hardly behaving in a dangerous or violent way, he maintains that she broke the law. Denny eagerly joins Alan and Shirley and interrupts "whore" D.A. Bodnar's television interview to comment on the case. Shirley questions Irma about the protest and the importance of voting district lines, and Irma explains that she and the other women disrobed in order to get more press attention for their cause. She points out that her work as the head of a women's shelter will be in jeopardy if she is labeled a sex offender, but Holly argues that her actions were "indecent." Denise attends Daniel's merry "funeral," which takes place at a bar, and she meets his family members. When his brother gives a heartfelt speech, however, she finds that she cannot celebrate his impending death and leaves. Alan calls Bodnar to the stand, despite Holly's protests, and asks why he has been following Irma's case so closely, saying that he is afraid of the truth and of losing his "stranglehold" on the voting districts. Paul scolds Alan for his behavior, saying that the district attorney's office now hates their firm even more. Alan then takes Brad to Bodnar's office and bluffs that Brad intends to run against him for D.A., pointing out that the handsome, child-saving lawyer will probably defeat him, but Bodnar refuses to change the charges against Irma.

Denise tells Daniel that she cannot "keep going" with him, and he tells her not to decide until he returns from an experimental treatment in Switzerland, though she guesses that he does not really intend to come back. Holly and Shirley give their closing arguments, with Shirley reading out some disturbing sex-offender statistics and saying that Irma does not deserve to be counted amongst them, adding that she is really being persecuted for speaking the truth about an injustice. Irma is found not guilty, and she celebrates by fulfilling one of Alan's fantasies in the elevator. Catherine agrees to share "her" office with Garrett for a price, and Brad appears to seriously consider Alan's idea about running for office. Later, Alan wonders if he and Denny are "drifting," as Denny is soon to be married. Includes commercials and promos.
