EXTRAS: BEN STILLER (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy about wannabe actors trying to find fame while employed as extras. In this episode, Ben Stiller directs a film about war-torn Bosnia featuring Andy and Maggie as extras. After Andy complains to rival Greg about his overzealous punches during a fight scene, Ben calls the crew together and introduces them to Goran, the man whose life story is the basis for the film. When Andy and Maggie see how Ben is catering to Goran, Andy plots to befreiend him in a bid to get some lines in the film. Meanwhile, Maggie puts the moves on Jon, an accountant on the production. Later, after lying to a colleague to get out of a party, Andy and Maggie run into Jon in the cafeteria. Jon tells them about a producer who’ll be at the party, making Andy suddenly interested in attending. Later, Andy returns to see Gorham and again prods him about having Ben get him a line. On set, Ben takes a child to task for laughing during a dramatic scene. At the party, Andy unsuccessfully tries to sweet-talk the producer. As Maggie goes to leave the party with Jon, Andy points out that Jon has one leg shorter than the other, making her conscious of the “club foot.” John confronts Maggie about his leg and accuses her of being put off by it. Though Maggie denies the accusation, Jon leaves in a huff. When Maggie and Andy rejoin the producer, the gaffe with John is the topic of conversation and the pair is forced into a hasty departure. Back on set, Goran brings Andy the line he negotiated, but Andy still isn’t satisfied. When Goran tries to resolve the issue with Ben, a situation ensues that leads to a no-holds-barred showdown between Ben, Goran, Andy and Maggie.
