EXTRAS: ROSS KEMP (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy about wannabe actors trying to find fame while employed as extras. In this episode, Andy and Maggie are extras on a costume drama set in Napoleonic times. Maggie is passed over for a bigger role due to her lack of cleavage. Andy is similarly insulted about his “fat face.” Over lunch, Andy and Maggie critique their fellow extras. Later, on set, Andy talks with rival Greg, who is working on a film with Vinnie Jones. As Maggie attempts to find romance with fellow actor Mark are foiled, Andy sits next to Ross Kemp during a break and the two talk about Ross’s successful career and his professional fighting skills. After having to lie about his resume to colleagues, Andy confronts agent Darren about the lack of jobs coming his way. Another client, Barry, comes into the office and they discuss how Darren has steered him wrong over the years. At Maggie’s urging, Andy goes back to see Ross, and they discuss a mutual friend from Ross’s former TV show, “The EastEnders.” Seeing Vinnie across the studio lot, Ross vents his jealousy. Andy fans the flames, then urges Ross to get him some lines in their movie. Elsewhere, Maggie starts to make progress with her romantic pursuit as Greg and Andy get into a game of one-upmanship about their current roles. The next day, Ross confronts Andy about threats being made to him by Vinnie. Back at her apartment, Maggie and Mark get intimate, though he’s critical of her techniques. Finally, Vinnie confronts Ross about his boasts, and Ross backs down. Ross subsequently admits to Andy that his tough guy persona is all an act, as were his claims that he could help Andy professionally.
