LAS VEGAS: MY UNCLE'S A GAS (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series about the lives of the security staff at Montecito, a high-class casino in Las Vegas. In this episode, Danny finds his new position as President of Operations highly stressful, as evidenced by the bizarre nightmares he experiences, including one where he is chased by an angry mob when the casino somehow runs out of money, and another about Delinda’s pregnancy. When he tells Mike about his dreams, Mike tells him they are premonitions of something bad to come, but Danny dismisses them. However, things start going wrong almost immediately, and the fire marshal surprises them with an inspection of the casino’s safety, which takes almost the entire day. As a result, Danny is forced to cancel plans with an annoyed Delinda. His problems get worse when his estranged uncle Luke suddenly arrives at the casino, immediately causing trouble. His uncle tries to converse with him, but Danny blows him off.
Elsewhere in the casino, a group of men disguised as laundry servicemen make their way through the building, armed with guns and setting up mysterious devices all around the building. This goes unnoticed by the staff, however, as they are distracted by an endurance competition involving an expensive truck that will be won by the person who keeps his or her hand on it the longest. One of the contestants is a wealthy, loud-mouthed rancher and a friend of A.J.’s, and when the man begins making obnoxious demands of Sam, A.J. instructs her to keep him happy no matter what.
In between attempts to flirt with a pretty girl in the truck contest, Mike runs a background check on Luke, per Danny’s request, and when it turns up a rap sheet, Danny orders Luke to be thrown from the casino. Mike tries to suggest that Danny give his uncle a break, but he refuses. When he finds Luke with Delinda, he grows angry and tells her to stay away from him, and states that he doesn’t consider him family. Meanwhile, the robbers continue their stake-out, and are very nearly caught by Mike, who is distracted at the last second by yet another problem with the truck competition. Various competitors are disqualified as the hours wear on, but the attractive woman who so interested Mike doesn’t seem to be tired at all. The rancher continues to harass Sam, making rude comments and extravagant demands, until she finally gets fed up and puts him in his place.
Delinda eventually confronts Danny about his uncle, and Danny explains that Luke caused trouble in his household when he was a kid, gambling and stealing to support his drug and alcohol habits, and eventually abandoned Danny’s mother before her early death, not even attending her funeral. Delinda pleads with him to reconsider giving the man a second chance. At the same time, A.J. calls Mike into his office to ask about the girl in the contest, and using security footage, the two of them uncover the girl’s clever trick, and she is disqualified. Danny and Luke finally have an emotional confrontation, and Luke apologizes for his past behavior, saying he wants to start over, and Danny begins to have a change of heart. A.J. then summons Sam and questions her about her actions, and she tells him that spending her whole day keeping the rude man happy lost the casino a lot of revenue. He responds that it is her job to do as he says and coldly fires her.
That night, the robbers finally put their plan into action, and, donning masks and suits, release some sort of toxic gas into the casino, which causes everyone to start panicking and passing out (including the rancher, who manages to keep his hand on the truck anyway). The criminals disable the ventilation system and storm the room with guns, and when Mike frantically calls Danny on the phone, Danny tells him not to let anyone else in, not even police, and attempts to take down the robbers on his own. He manages to grab one of them and reveal a distinct tattoo on his arm, but eventually passes out himself before he can do any more. To be continued... Commercials deleted.
