BARBARA WALTERS PRESENTS: THE 10 MOST FASCINATING PEOPLE OF 2007 (TV)

Summary

One in this occasional series of interview specials, hosted by Barbara Walters. This program looks at what are considered by Walters to be the ten most fascinating people of the year 2007, including singer Victoria Beckham and soccer player David Beckham, former United States president Bill Clinton, singer Justin Timberlake, actress Katherine Heigl, Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson, the founders of Myspace, singer and actress Jennifer Hudson, radio host Don Imus, President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez, and author J.K. Rowling.

Highlights include: Timberlake’s resurgent career and Emmy Award for his participation in a racy “Saturday Night Live” sketch; his thoughts on being labeled as a “pop” musician; his numerous highly public romantic relationships; Clinton’s extensive charity and activism work in the years since the end of his presidency; his thoughts should his wife, Senator Hillary Clinton, get elected as president; the “different kinds of intelligence” between himself and Hillary; his recent quadruple-bypass surgery and how it has affected his outlook; DeWolfe and Anderson’s conceptual origins for Myspace and its potential for “social engineering”; their working dynamic and the unprecedented success of Myspace; Heigl’s “overwhelming” success, particularly for her role on the medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy”; her personal connection to much of the material on “Grey’s Anatomy” due to some traumatic childhood experiences; controversy surrounding Heigl’s co-star Isaiah Washington and her recent marriage to musician Josh Kelley; Imus’s reaction to the controversy surrounding his racist insults directed at the Rutgers University women’s basketball team; the cancellation of his radio show and public outcry against him; his private “emotional” meeting with the Rutgers team, during which he offered an apology for his remarks; his charity work with terminally ill children on his ranch in New Mexico; how his firing has affected his sense of “responsibility” and how he hopes to conduct himself on his new radio show; Hudson’s rise to prominence and appearance on “American Idol” in 2004; her Oscar win for the film “Dreamgirls” and sudden surge in fame; the Beckhams on their status as “sexiest couple alive”; David’s heavily soccer-focused upbringing and Victoria’s fame as a member of the Spice Girls, and how the two of them first met; their affinity for their large family and David’s time as a player for the Los Angeles Galaxy; Victoria’s reunion tour with the other Spice Girls and her design company and “health-conscious” eating habits; Chavez’s outspoken and controversial political beliefs and his frequent insults directed towards United States President George W. Bush; his socialist policies and attempts to help the millions of Venezuelan citizens living in poverty, as well as his dictator-like actions taken since he assumed office in 1998; Rowling’s humble beginnings and how she first conceived of her hit book series “Harry Potter”; how the death of her mother and the tumultuous events of her life contributed to her writing, which spanned several years and a number of rejections from publishers; and the unprecedented success of the book series and the publication of the final novel, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” Includes commercials.
