NATIONAL LAMPOON RADIO HOUR, THE {SHOW #7}: THE MISSING WHITE HOUSE TAPES (RADIO)
Summary
One in this series of hyperkinetic comedy programs comprised of dozens of fast paced sketches and song parodies. Although the skits in most episodes are generally only tenuously connected, this episode follows the theme of President Richard Nixon's impeachment. The beginning of the program's introduction is cut off. In the first skit, a Pat Nixon impersonator gives a tour of the Lincoln Bedroom in the White House, complete with a detailed explanation of where all the microphones are hidden. The next bit is reportedly Richard Nixon's last conversation with his mother. The third segment is a recurring portion of the program called "Laughs from the Past"; in this episode, the archival tape features a riff from controversial comedian Lenny Bruce on presidential history. Another bit is built around a "Sesame Street"-style children's program hosted by Nixon's alter ego, "Big Dick." Next, a Spiro Agnew impersonator spoofs the vice president's fondness for vague metaphors. In a song parody set to the melody of "The Hanky Panky," two singers harmonize about the need to remember to "erase your tapes." After a closing bit featuring a recording in which Nixon himself admits his guilt in the Watergate scandal, set to the strains of "Hail to the Chief," a narrator closes the episode by reading a list of the program's "contributors."
