One in this series of weekday news programs. Part one of five in the final program hosted by John A. Gambling, who plans to retire and turn the series over to his son, John R. Gambling. This broadcast features regularly updated traffic, weather, and news reports. Major news stories include the private garbage workers' strike and the Daily News strike; an armored car robbery at Kennedy Airport; and the murder of Marilyn Reza, a nurse from Bayport, Long Island. Also included during the news broadcasts are recordings of W. Nathaniel Howell, U.S. ambassador to Kuwait; and Victor R. Lindquist, dean of Northwestern University at Illinois. Throughout the program, Gambling reminisces and receives congratulations and phone calls from friends, co-workers, and listeners, including co-worker Gil Gross, who later reads a promo for his own program, "The Gil Gross Show."
