Summary
Continued from R91:0032. One in this series of weekday
news programs. Part five of five in the final program
hosted by John A. Gambling, who plans to retire and turn
the series over to his son, John R. Gambling. The
broadcast consists of regularly updated traffic,
weather, and news reports. Major news stories include
the garbage workers' strike and the Daily News strike;
and armored car robbery at Kennedy Airport, and the
murder of Marilyn Reza, a nurse from Bayport, Long
Island. The program includes comments by David Dinkins,
mayor of New York City and Lee Brown, New York City
police commissioner. Throughout the show, Gambling
receives congratulations and phone calls from friends,
co-workers, and listeners, including Paul Harney, Joan
Hamburg, and Ken and Daria Dolan. Additionally, a
congratulatory letter from David Dinkins is read aloud
on the air. Includes commercials.
(This series began in 1925 with John B. Gambling; in
1959, his son, John A. Gambling, began hosting the
program.)
