DRAGNET {ORIGINAL SERIES}: THE BIG CAST (TV)
Summary
One in this series of police dramas. As narrated by the laconic Sgt. Joe Friday, the cases are culled from the files of the Los Angeles Police Department. In this episode, a protracted investigation of twelve unexplained murders leads Friday and Jacobs to suspect Henry Ross, an imposing, self-possessed longshoreman. Ross puts up a token resistance until he is informed of the exhaustive evidence linking him to one of the crimes. Over a meal at a health food restaurant, Ross reveals his sociopathic character as he calmly recounts his killings and describes the act of murder as "no big deal" between enthusiastic bites of his vegetable burger. In spite of themselves, Friday and Jacobs are fascinated by the man's utterly cold insouciance, and treat Ross with a measure of qualified respect throughout the encounter, as if observing a particularly rare and dangerous specimen.
