RICH MAN, POOR MAN {CHAPTER 4 OF 9} (TV)
Summary
Continued from T:05948. Chapter four of this nine-part mini-series based on Irwin Shaw's best-selling novel that follows the divergent paths of the two Jordache brothers -- Rudy, the educated and ambitious one, who triumphs over his impoverished background, and Tom, the unruly rebel -- from 1945 to the 1960s. This chapter opens with Rudy convincing Mr. Calderwood that suburbia is the wave of the future and that he should build a shopping center at Lake Whitby with Rudy in charge of the project. Julie, now a well-known photographer, vists the site of the mall for a story she's doing, and lets Rudy know that her marriage to Willie is on the rocks. He, in turn, tells her that he's always loved her. However, when their son is rushed to the hospital, Willie convinces Julie that they should try to make their marriage work. Meanwhile, Tom's boxing career is taking off, and after a ten-year separation, Rudy tries to reconcile with his brother by attending one of his fights in New York and offering him a partnership in his business. Tom, however, wants nothing to do with his family and refuses the offer. In order to wash his hands of the whole Jordache clan, Tom pays Rudy the three thousand dollars his father had used to get him out of jail back in his California days. Returning home that evening, Tom finds that Teresa and their son have left him. Commercials deleted. Continues with T:05944.
