SLEDGE HAMMER!: OVER MY DEAD BODYGUARD (TV)
Summary
One in this comedic series about the exploits of police inspector Sledge Hammer, a good-natured but hopelessly dim-witted macho man who sleeps with his .357 Magnum and swears by his cocky catch phrase, "Trust me, I know what I'm doing." In this episode, Captain Trunk learns that he is being called to testify in the high-profile trial of some of the city's most corrupt drug kingpins. Realizing that the potential testimony could place Trunk's life in danger, the police commissioner decides to choose the police officer with the best record to act as Trunk's bodyguard during the trial. Because of some strange loopholes it turns out that the officer with the best record in the department is Sledge Hammer. Trunk becomes livid, insisting that he would feel much safer as far away from Sledge as possible. In contrast, Sledge loves the idea of taking on a new responsibility and bonding with the Captain in the process. Sledge invites Trunk to stay at his modest bachelor pad, but Trunk finds he is unable to get any rest with Sledge's insistent snoring and playing with his gun in his sleep. The next night, Trunk decides that he wants to take his ex-wife out to dinner. Sledge follows close behind on the date, but as soon as the Captain asks for a moment alone he is ambushed. Sledge tells the media that the Captain has been killed when in fact he is only being kept in a hospital ward until the end of the trial. It is not long, though, before Sledge slips up and leads the druglords' assassins straight to the Captain's bedside. Includes commercials and promos.
